Renovation of a Traditional Mid Terraced House
Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan
An intriguing example of a traditional Victorian Terrace, the home has suffered from a series of poor alterations and renovations that have caused large areas of damp and structural issues. We worked closely with our client to peel these back, remove problematic additions, and generally upgrade the built fabric of the home with breathable materials. With the addition of solar panels and an air source heat pump, the desire is for the renovated home to have surplus energy needs.
A new dormer loft conversion and rear extension also allow the growing family a place to cook and entertain, with a triple aspect extension offering views of a redesigned garden and courtyard. A simple material palette of bare concrete, corrugated metal, and timber echo the site's semi-industrial past. The project has become a testbed for the studio offering us a chance to explore and deploy our growing knowledge of retrofitting and extending existing housing stock.
